Protesters are planning a major demonstration against plans for a new ‘Devonwall’ Parliamentary constituency.
The organisation Kernow Matters to You is calling for what it calls a peaceful protest on the Devon and Cornwall border.
There has been widespread opposition to plans to create a new constituency spanning the Tamar, stretching from Bideford to Launceston, under boundary changes drawn up by the Conservative Government.
Now the ‘Anti-Devonwall Peaceful Protest’ is planned to join the chorus of opposition from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, October 30 at Polson Bridge, outside Launceston.
The lady Bards of Gorsedh Kernow are behind the action.
Invited
In a statement yesterday, organisers said: ‘Polson Bridge has been chosen as the place for this peaceful demonstration as it is the bridge over the Tamar where Michael Joseph An Gof and Thomas Flamank led the Cornish army into England in 1497.
‘All are invited and we already have a bus filled up with people of all ages and vocations attending. Some folks are taking their children as this is really their future.
‘Following enquiries from other groups who are worried about what is happening to Cornwall at the hands of Westminster, all are invited to join us, not only anti ‘Devonwall’ but also those sick of the Westminster Government, the cutbacks, the lies and deceit we are constantly shown.’
‘We need to make a clear statement to Westminster here.’
