The director of a legal firm in South East Cornwall is behind a petition calling on the Government not to privatise the Land Registry. The petition, started by James Ferguson, of X-Press Legal Services, based in Looe, has attracted more than 225,000 signatures. Mr Ferguson said he is opposed to a proposal from Chancellor George Osborne to raise £1bn in 2017 from the sale of the organisation. Mr Ferguson argues the Land Registry, which keeps the register of ownership of land and property, should not be placed in the hands of a private sector monopoly.
