Cornish flags were waving amongst the huge crowds that gathered in London yesterday for the ’Put it to the People’ march and rally.

Organisers estimated that around a million people came out onto the streets of the capital to show their support for a second referendum and for Britain staying in the EU.

Among the 16 coach loads who went from Devon and Cornwall was Emily Mays of Darite, who said that it had been ’an amazing atmosphere and a very good-natured protest’.

’There were lots of families, old people, young people, middle-aged. Such creativity and passion and you saw the Great British sense of humour writ large.

’Lots of people were asking about our flags and Cornwall’s position if we leave the EU.’

The EU member states have extended the deadline for Brexit, but with the Government’s Withdrawal Agreement deal looking unlikely to command a majority, Prime Minister Teresa May has indicated she may not bring it back before the House of Commons for a third vote this coming week.

This means that MPs will have to come up with an alternative plan or face leaving the EU without a deal in place on April 12.

Meanwhile, a petition on the Government website calling for Brexit to be revoked has gained more than four million signatures.
