When I was a very young person (now I am 88 yrs of age), I used to come and stay at The Old Police Station at Higher Lux Street.

My uncle Mr Bert Berryman (PC) and his other live in colleagues took it in turn to 'Parade the Town' and be around at most times for a chat, they knew everyone and what was going on day and night!!

On a Sunday morning I remember being able to know that "someone" had been brought in over night (Saturday), just a 'drunk' usually well known and brought in for his own protection and released later on with another warning!

In those days of long ago Liskeard was a safe lovely country town and a pleasure to keep coming back to, which I did. When I got married I lived here most of my life. But sad to say those days I knew long ago are all gone and someone must be at fault somewhere, to allow our town to become a frightening place to live in, and the young to take over, being a law unto themselves!!
