One of Cornwall’s biggest community arts and crafts events has an unusual offer with a Poldark flavour.

Since 1999, annual exhibitions at Linkinhorne Parish Hall and the neighbouring Upton Cross Primary School at Upton Cross, near Liskeard, have married the works of internationally renowned artists with local amateurs and schoolchildren, created a stage for craft workers to demonstrate their skills, offered home-made refreshments and shown off the work of local groups from poets to the ladies of the WI.

The event has raised well over £30,000 for local causes since its formation and been visited by thousands of people.

Now the 2016 event will feature an offer from Cornish journalist, writer and publisher Simon Parker, who will be providing a number of copies of the Cornish literary journal Scryfa for visitors to take away – free.

Scryfa was edited for Simon for many years, and was a popular focus for the latest in Cornish writing. It was launched with the very last Poldark story written by the late Winston Graham, and given to Simon.

‘Simon wants to share some of the remaining copies of Scryfa with anybody who’s interested,’ said Ruth, ‘so there’ll be a free copy of a book of Cornish stories for visitors to the art and craft exhibition – while stocks last!’

Artist Ruth, who created the arts and crafts event and has organised it each year with Brian Hooper, is finalising this year’s exhibition from August 13 to 21 (10am to 6pm each day).

Ruth said: “Each year we have more than 1,000 works on show and still have many requests to show more. We already have more than 100 exhibitors booked. Exhibitors come from all over Cornwall and Devon, and further afield.

This year’s event will raise funds – through a raffle and entry-by-donation contributions – for local charities.
