RESIDENTS are being encouraged to shape the future of Looe by getting involved in the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative. MCTI status was launched in September so any ideas would be gratefully received. The initiative is of major importance because it will decide how Looe will progress, leading to funding applications and town regeneration. Management of the scheme is through the Looe Town Forum and a core steering group with roles for enthusiastic local people. John Charnock, chair of Looe Town Forum, said: 'We have been given the opportunity to regenerate our own community rather than having things foisted upon us. 'We encourage all people to get involved and express their opinions on the way forward for Looe but without losing its character. 'It is regeneration for the community by the community.' People are needed who have particular interests in areas including business, the environment and young people. There are positions available for paid project workers and a project co-ordinator. The steering committee has already received an encouraging amount of interest, and want to see the widest range of interests and sections of the community represented.
