I AM writing in the hope that someone with a conscience or in authority will attend to the disgusting litter – disturbed by the recent verge trimming – that is cluttering our trunk road and in particular the dual carriageway between Trerulefoot and Liskeard. My husband and I live in a rural area and frequently take a used plastic carrier bag for a walk collecting waste from our country lanes. One particular problem we have is with an as yet unknown person who leaves his empty beer cans in the hedges. These we often pick up and attach to a high branch of an adjacent bush in the hope the culprit will see. Had we the courage we would gladly walk the offending main road collecting the rubbish. But I fear we would soon be detained for trespassing or some such highway offence on a classified yet ill named 'clearway'. As a small land/property owner if we allowed litter and rubbish to accumulate such as to be an eyesore we would soon have a visit from an environmental officer, yet one of, if not the biggest land owner in the county, our own Cornwall County Council does nothing to clear the rubbish left at Fraggle Rock by the so-called travellers. It would appear the travellers are returning to this site despite a closing order and bollards in the access, yet nothing is being done to this environmentally dangerous site. So Caradon District Councillors, Cornwall County Councillors and you of the Highways Agency, can something please be done to clean up our countryside.
