A Looe landlady is appealing to former regulars and friends of the Tom Sawyer’s Inn to support the funeral of a past member of staff.
Michael (Micky) Clapham, who was well-known and liked as the bar manager when the Hannafore business operated as a bar and restaurant, has died aged 68.
Micky retired in 2012, about a year prior to the pub’s conversion to a bed and breakfast. He continued to live next door, said landlady Tracey Bartlam.
‘Micky was the bar manager and he must have been here for 20 years or more,’ she said.
‘We don’t know if he has got any family, but certainly no-one he ever spoke of. But he was very well known and well loved in the Looe area.’
Tracey, who is making the arrangements for Micky’s funeral, has begun a crowdfunding appeal through Just Giving, to help meet the cost, and is hoping to raise £2,000.
‘I would also love to see as many local people as possible who remember Micky attend the funeral,’ she added. ‘People can call me on 01503 262782.’
The funeral is set to take place at the Glynn Valley Crematorium on Friday, December 23 at 2.30pm.
The crowdfunding page has been set up by Tracey’s daughter, Natalie, and can be found at www.just giving.com/crowdfund ing/Nataliehartley
