A play written by a First World War officer and based on his experiences in the trenches will be presented by a youth theatre group tomorrow (Friday November 9).

Journey’s End, By RC Sheriff, gives a glimpse into the lives of British officers in a dug out over four days in March 1918.

First performed in 1928 and starring a young Laurence Olivier, the staged reading at St Martin’s Church in Liskeard is by young members of the Caradon Youth Theatre, many of whom are current and former students of Liskeard School, and their director Nic Early.

‘I felt it was important to mark this very important centenary and engage our young people with this dramatic piece of theatre,’ said Nic.

‘The evening promises to have a great atmosphere and will be a fitting tribute. All proceeds will go to Help for Heroes.’

Tickets for the event can be obtained at Jack Ryder Books, Early’s, or by calling 07899953091.
