PLANS are proceeding for a proposed children's and young person's respite care centre for East Cornwall, to be situated in Liskeard.
Cornwall county council is hoping to site the respite care centre in the old BT training centre building at Charter Way, Liskeard.
The plans have passed through Caradon council's planning control committee with no objection, and now have to be accepted by the Cornwall's planning committee. If they are given the go-ahead the county council proposes to complete the purchase of the property, and start work as soon as possible.
County steering group members have visited the site, and been given a tour, after which they attended a meeting with the architect, representatives of Cornwall's property department, and the chairman of Penwith respite care, and social services managers.
The steering group is to be kept involved in decisions regarding the building work, particularly with regards fittings, equipment and decoration, and layout of the site.
A number of families with children and young people who would benefit from respite care in East Cornwall, due to their special needs, have been contacted by the county, and sent plans of the centre. They have also been asked for suggestions for the scheme, including a name for the building.
The plans include staff quarters, a games room with pool table, lounge, kitchen, dining room, six en suite client bedrooms, a conservatory, a quiet room, and storage facilities. It is proposed the building would also be redecorated throughout, with secondary glazing including laminated safety glass fitted to all windows.
