PLANS to develop the Lord Eliot Hotel site in Liskeard have been objected to by the planning committee of Liskeard Town Council.

The plans were put forward by Pastor Mark Russell from the town's Greenbank Christian Centre.

The proposed changes to the site included turning the building into a community centre with ancillary bedrooms, a restaurant and four self-contained flats. At the town council meeting on Tuesday, Liskeard mayor Anne Purdon said: 'We object because we think that this site is a prime location and one that should be used as a site for a hotel.'

The plans have now been handed to Caradon District Council but will be forwarded to the new One Cornwall council for consideration.
