TRAFFIC issues could stand in the way of an affordable housing development in a Rame Peninsula Village.

In Millbrook, Liverty (formerly Devon and Cornwall Housing) hopes to build a 100% affordable scheme of 22 houses on land at Parsons Court.

Part of the site has already been developed and the plot in question is currently in agricultural use.

The need for affordable homes in the village is high; there are 94 households in Millbrook Parish on the Homechoice register, says the applicant.

But in the western end of the village, congestion on West Street, and on Hounster Hill – the main route in and out of Millbrook centre – is a problem

During a previous planning application for the same site, a highways officer noted that HGVs and service vehicles are a cause of obstruction in a section of road where traffic flows are already moving in conflict.

In 2010, the national planning inspectorate dismissed an appeal against a refusal of 22 affordable homes at the Parsons Court site.

And the concerns raised when a scheme was floated again in 2016 have not been addressed, says Millbrook Parish Council.

In his response to Liverty, planning officer Patrick James says: ‘Millbrook Parish Council strongly objects to this application. It is felt that none of the material considerations raised in the pre-application from October 2016 have been addressed. Millbrook still has all the same traffic, transport and other issues.’
