The St Mellion golf resort is looking to knock its expansion plans out of the long grass.

Crown Golf, which owns St Mellion, first gained planning permission to build up to 265 holiday homes in 2007.

While Crown continued with its £20m investment, including an overhaul of one of its courses, a new hotel and refurbished club facilities, the company tasked with building the golfing homes went bust, leaving 199 units unbuilt.

Crown has said that the accommodation has always been part of its vision to enable it to host major international golfing tournaments in Cornwall, but that the construction of the homes is ‘outside its core business’.

A renewed outline planning permission was granted in November 2014, but this is due to expire in November of this year, unless the scheme is progressed.

The company is now seeking up to date pre-application advice over the finer detail of the proposal such as access, landscaping and drainage.
