Torpoint’s Garden leisure club could be part-demolished to make way for new apartments if new plans from the owner are approved.

A planning application includes the demolition of the swimming pool and squash courts, the creation of 26 flats, and the modernisation of the remaining facilities such as the gym.

The proposals also feature a new public toilet which would replace the existing public toilet fronting onto Antony Road.

The Garden Sport and Leisure Club has experienced a significant drop in membership, said agent Burke Richards, and as a consequence the swimming pool, sauna, restaurant and bar at the site have been closed.

The property was sold to Plymouth Boat Park Ltd in 2015 and under the new ownership the gym and fitness suite has been kept open, but in order to keep going, the site needs investment, says the agent.
