AN ambitious project to connect Torpoint and Mount Edgcumbe by water is part of new plans to boost the town and wider area. The Coastal Community team has set out plans on how it intends to drive growth, with the aim of making Cornwall’s ‘hidden corner’ a highly desirable location in which to live and work. Other projects on the cards include the improvement of the public transport, cycle and footpath networks in Torpoint and the Rame Peninsula, and the production of a co-ordinated marketing and tourism strategy. Having already secured coastal revival funding for improvements to Portwrinkle Harbour, the Coastal Community Team has now used £10,000 from a national Government pot as a springboard to develop plans in detail and secure more grants. Coastal communities across the UK are being encouraged to aim for ‘economic lift off’ and a £1.18m fund was distributed between 118 teams last year. ‘Our economic plan is a series of connected, achievable projects that together will enhance employment opportunities and the environment and deliver a stronger, more resilient peninsula community,’ said Torpoint Town Councillor Gary Davies, who chairs the Coastal Community Advisory Committee. ‘Our vision is for Torpoint and Rame to be sought after places to live and a location for high-quality sustainable holidays – while still being the “hidden corner” people love to visit.
