OWNERS of a popular beach café hope to extend its life and floorspace.

The Black Rock café at Millendreath was given planning permission to operate on its current site on a temporary basis almost five  years ago.

Now Espalier, which is developing the resort as a whole, wants to extend this permission for a further three years – and also hopes to enlarge the existing café.

The developer wants to make a small extension to the building, to create more floorspace for seating, a bigger kitchen and a new storage area.

A spokesperson for Espalier said that a ‘masterplan planning application’ for the resort in its entirety would be submitted to the local authority soon. This would include the developer’s plans for permanent waterfront facilities.

In the meantime, said a spokesperson, the temporary café would continue to be required to serve visitors to the beach and the resort.

The café is open all year round, employing two full time and three part time employees during the winter months, and a further ten part time staff during the summer season.
