TWO leisure centres in South East Cornwall are among 11 around the county which are likely to be recommended, at a Cornwall Council committee meeting today (Friday, October 23), to be sold off.
Lux Park in Liskeard and the Saltash Leisure Centre could be under new ownership by April 2017 when the contract with the present provider, Tempus Leisure, which manages and operates them on behalf of the council, comes to an end.
The committee meeting today will make recommendations which will go forward to the council’s Cabinet on November 4.
Cornwall Councillor Sally Hawken (Liskeard East) addressed a meeting of Liskeard Town Council on Tuesday night, about Lux Park.
Cllr Hawken said that during any sell-off process she would be emphasising the special relationship schools have with the centre.
Town councillors were concerned that a new owner may decide to sell on the centre for development. They said the centre is an important asset to the town and district and would be needed by the increasing population.
