HOPES that an unfinished ‘bridge to nowhere’ in Liskeard may finally be completed seem closer with the news that development on both sides of the divide can go ahead.
Linden Homes has been given permission to build 45 homes on the final phase of development at the huge Liskerrett Vale site.
The plot of land to the north of Lake Lane has been neglected and empty for more than ten years and has become a local eyesore.
A condition on the planning approval states that the developer must provide a cycle or footpath link to an uncompleted bridge which would connect Liskerrett Vale with further housing and the A38 to the south.
The Cornish Times understands that Linden Homes has sold the plot on to a third party developer.
Meanwhile Cornwall Council’s cabinet this week gave the go ahead to funding the building of new houses on land immediately to the south of the unfinished bridge, known as Maudlin Farm.
The Council has bought the land as part of its housing development strategy.
Residents of Liskerrett Vale had called for no houses to be built at the Linden site until a road connection was made to the south. Concerns had been raised over the volume of traffic moving through an already congested estate, and exiting onto the busy Charter Way bypass. Local people had submitted a petition to the Council stating their views.
