PERMISSION has been granted to convert a dilapidated building in the centre of Menheniot into housing.
Applicants the Bunkhams had sought approval of a plan to turn a redundant store and premises known as The Chapel and The Smithy into three apartments and a cottage-style dwelling.
The project had been supported by Menheniot Parish Council, which noted at its meeting in December: “The property has remained derelict for many years and has led to complaints from residents. The new owners have already replaced the damaged roof which has made an immediate improvement to the safety of the immediate area.
“Refurbishing this landmark building in the centre of the village will enhance its appearance and provide extra housing that is needed in the parish.”
Describing the location as one suitable for new homes, planning officer George Shirley said: “The works have been designed sensitively to respect the traditional character of the building, which is a large and characterful property in a poor state of repair.”
