A long-neglected former chapel could become flats in a town centre.
Empty for the several years, and having suffered from water ingress, the property will need substantial renovations in order to make it habitable, says planning agent Austin Architecture and Design.
Plans have been submitted to Cornwall Council on behalf of developer Chandler Homes, who hope to create seven one-bedroom flats. The apartments on the ground floor would be suitable for wheelchair users and would include large, disabled access bathrooms.
The interior of the building would be completely refurbished and the layout altered considerably; the applicant plans to demolish partitioning walls and a staircase, and install a new floor within the
shell of the property to create a third storey.
The former chapel would look no different from the outside, save for a new front entrance; the existing doorway would become a feature window.
Liskeard Town Council’s planning committee are set to discuss the scheme at their meeting this evening.
