Saltash Regatta, which will be held on July 15 and 16 this year, staged its annual meeting at Saltash Guildhall last week.

New people stepped forward to work on the committee and were welcomed by president Sydney Harley, who has served as chairman and secretary as well as president for the past year. Sue Pearce was elected the new secretary, and John Forster will serve on the committee. There is still a vacancy for chairman, as previous chairman Charles Chapman died a couple of years ago.

Last year's Saltash Festival 99/2000 committee had the Regatta under its umbrella, and will be doing so again this year - but it is not known whether this committee will continue to exist after 2000.

Treasurer, Brian Heather, presented the balance sheet.

Mr Harley thanked all who helped with last year's successful event, especially Bill MacDonald and St John Ambulance Brigade, Livewire and Saltash Leos. Saltash mayor, Mona Tomaszewska, thanked the president and those who had kept the Regatta going despite there being a small committee. This year will see the l65th regatta.

Committee members are Mary MacDonald, Peter Stephens, Mr Forster and in and advisory capacity Mr MacDonald. Mr Harley remains as president and Mr Heather treasurer.
