A NEW art work depicting the history of Liskeard and one of its ‘unsung heroes’ is being planned.
The alleyway leading from Dean Street to the Westbourne car park is a bit dingy and ‘in desperate need of cheering up’, says resident Kath Revell.
Kath would like to hear from anyone interested in getting involved in a mural project, which she hopes will brighten up the walls the whole length of the alleyway.
‘The theme for the mural will be the history of Liskeard, depicting the life of famous people of the town, with a particular focus on Emily Hobhouse,’ she said.
‘We are looking for people to get involved in many aspects of the project: researching, producing artwork, preparing surfaces and painting.
‘The town council is fully supportive of the idea and is helping to find sources of funding for the murals.’
Kath hopes that grant funding will allow for an artist to work with schools and groups to come up with a suitable design and then make it a reality.
Another part of the initiative would be the repair and maintenance of existing town murals, such as the teddy bear work painted by June Cole in 2009.
‘In case anyone is wondering, don’t worry, we won’t be getting rid of the dragon mural!’ said Kath.
‘Anyone who would like to find out more or get involved should call me on 01579 340591.’
