LOOE is bringing back its pirate day as a one-off event on Saturday, August 22.

It follows numerous requests to bring back the regular pirate days which were held during the summer until five years ago.

A group of enthusiasts, some of whom were involved in the original pirate days, have got together to organise a one-off event to test its popularity.

The organisers are hoping that many residents will join in and be on the streets on Pirate Day dressed as pirates and wenches.

Dave Holford, a former Tuesday pirate, said: ‘We need lots of folk in costume simply walking the streets and quays, beaches and clifftops of East and West Looe. We are asking everyone to be involved, including retailers, cafes, musicians – in fact everyone who can turn Looe into a pirate town on the day.’

If the pirate day proves a success the organisers say they will consider bringing back a weekly event in the port next summer.
