Pigeon Racing

Pensilva PFC raced from Eastbourne this week, the first inland race. The 11 members' 68 birds were liberated at 11.45 am, and they made good speeds home.

Taking first place were G and P Skews of Pensilva with a velocity of 1495.619 and a flying time of 4:02:01. Second place went to KJ and A Hicks with a velocity of 1493.859 and a flying time of 4:04:24. David Rentree of Quethiock took third place on 1488.172 with a flying time of 4:01:39.

KJ and A Hicks won first 5p and 10p pools as well as the single nom and the Ladies' cup. DW Renfree won second 5p and 10p pools and 2-bird nom. Next week's race is from Medrea.

Last weekend saw the Saltash Pigeon Club race from Eastbourne in Kent, owing to early morning mist the birds were held until 12.00 noon. The weather improved and with a helping easterly wind, a fast race ensued, recording their third win of the season. Messrs Charlie and Michael Zammit, they yearling hen bird covered the 198 mile journey in 3 hrs 38 mins and 5 sec recording an average velocity of 1595.610 yards per minute, just over 54 MPH.

Seven members sent out 150 birds to the race and returns were reported as very good.
