THE latest edition of the Cornish Times is on sale from today, and content includes:

-One of the main roads into Looe is set to be closed for more than a month. The A387 (Sandplace Road) is set to be shut from Sunday (January 23) until March 6.

-‘Bridge to Nowhere’ in Liskeard is being demolished after nearly a decade of non-use.

-The public is being asked for their views on the rise of the tolls across the Tamar Bridge. The toll is set to increase by 60p next year following financial shortfall created by COVID-19 and a drop in traffic levels.

-The owners of the landmark garage and shop, The Four Turnings garage near Fowey have

retired after more than half a century serving their community. The garage has been owned and operated by the Jones family since 1970, providing a vehicle workshop, fuel sales, and a small

convenience store.

-Sea swimmers share their tips for staying safe in the ocean. A collection of safety information from experienced sea swimmer and member of Looe Swimming club, Guy Cooper with tips and tricks on how to be prepared before braving the cold.

-The story of the 4ft hermit saint who made King Alfred great written by Simon Artymiuk. The story talks about the classic tale of King Alfred taking shelter in an old women’s house and then allowing her cakes to burn, but few realise that the first appearance of the story is in early biography of the Cornish hermit St Neot.

-A look into the latest Cornish Times sponserd cross country race. Children from primary schools all across county got off to a flying start at Cotehele on Friday. See the pictures from Chris Bowden.

-The Po l ice and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Alison Hernandez says she is dismayed by reports on the BBC’s Panorama that suggest a national 5% increase in fatality rates could be attributed to lack of investment in roads policing.
