A CHINESE pianist has visited Callington Community College to both play and talk to students about her career as an international concert pianist. Wu Qian, 23, visited the school recently, playing two major works by Chopin and Rachmaninov and answering a number of questions about her early life in China, her musical education in England and her life in music. Wu Qian also discussed Chinese music with the Callington students and played a short piece for the audience to hear. She was delighted with the interest and enthusiasm of the students and plans to return to Callington Community College in April to run a piano masterclass when college pianists will be invited to play for her. The workshop was part of the specialist music college brief to introduce young Cornish musicians to professional artistes. Born in Shanghai, she was discovered at the age of 11 by a professor at the Yuhudi Menuhin Music School in Surrey, who suggested she move to the UK to develop her musical career. After a number of years at the Menuhin school she is now developing her international career playing at major venues throughout the world.
