The cameras were turned on freelance photographer Neil Richardson as he merrily 'snapped' away at the annual dinner and presentatation evening of Looe Sailing Club – because he was the recipient of the final award!

Mr Richardson, whose work regularly features in The Cornish Times, was presented with the new Commodore's Trophy as a 'thank you' for his unstinting efforts in raising the club's profile.

The award, presented by Commodore Dominic Lozynski at the Hannafore Point Hotel, West Looe, on the night dinghy sailors swapped their

lifejackets for 'Dickie-bow' ties, took the form of a model J-class yacht in a glass case. The work of Toby Bray, it had been framed by Geoff Godbolt.

Mr Lozynski, who was assisted in the presentations by his son, Stacey, recalled a successful season, both on and off the water, and thanked the town council; the town trusts and the Harbour Commissioners for their continuing support. Next summer, he said, two National championships would be held in the resort – one for the ever-popular blue-sailed Enterprise dinghies and the other for Looe's own Redwing fleet.

He also praised Rear Commodore Sue Dunn, who had organised the evening and who was now busy planning an exciting Christmas and New Year entertainment programme for the Buller Street club.

As well as the Commodore's Trophy, there were the presentations of two other special awards.

The Jack Sargent Trophy for endeavour went to the tireless John Crabb, who does so much to keep the club on an even keel, while the David Pengelly Trophy for character and for being sailing's all-round good egg went to the commodore himself.
