A FIREFIGHTER who’s been running the Looe Ten Miler distance EVERY day for a month will run the last day of his challenge in full breathing apparatus.
Each year, the Looe Community Fire Station crew run the local event for The Fire Fighters Charity, and they tend to make the already gruelling route harder still by wearing their PPE as they go.
This year, due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, the race, organised by the Looe Pioners, is being run virtually over 30 days.
But firefighter Phil Shepley decided that he would run 10 miles every day from February 20 to March 21. He’s been cheered on by Looe residents and joined by local people on some of his runs.
With only a few more days to go now, Phil has stepped up his usual 10 miles by running in fire kit. And on his final day, Sunday March 21, he will be running whilst wearing Breathing Apparatus.
“We’re blown away by Phil’s effort and dedication to completing this challenge,” said a spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service.
“An incredible £2800 has been raised so far for the fantastic work the charity does for our fire family.”
