Petanque - Former Callington duo win the Strawberry shoot
Former Callington duo Barry and Diane Scott returned to the Duchy from their new Devon base and won the prestigious Strawberry Shoot Doubles Competition held at The Swingle Tree in KelIy Bray on Sunday. The pair enjoyed a 13-0 victory over Cornish Doubles team Trengilley Warthas.
No fewer than 28 teams took part in the all day event from clubs as far apart as Constantine in the West to Ottery St Mary in the East.
In an all Devon Plate Final two teams from the large Watts Blake Bearne club of Newton Abbot battled it out with Les Frenchies coining out victors 13-9.
Local teams Les Bretons and Callington Twinning reached the main knockout competition before surcumming to Devon opposition while the three Torpoint teams enjoyed the day but failed to make the final rounds.
The next competition is the Thompsons Comish Doubles being held at the Captains Blood Tavern on Sunday where the Swingle Tree hope to enter at least one team while the next event at Kelly Bray will be the Pasty Shoot Triples on 10th October.
