Pensilva triumph in Divisional League cup final

There was some consolation for Pensilva for missing out on promotion when they met Padstow at Roche in the Duchy Division Two cup final.

The season ended on a high note as fielding an almost full squad Pensilva demonstrated their true ability and totally outclassed Padstow to win by the impressive margin of 7-1.

From the start Pensilva's deadly strike duo of Stephen Firth and Tony Rogers proved too hot to handle.

They were supported by the artistry and drive of midfield dynamos Bernie Swinburne, Tino Firth and Jamie Page. A 4-0 scoreline at half time was a fair reflection on the play as the Padstow goalkeeper made several outstanding saves.

Pensilva eased off after half time, the defence of Paul Dunbobbin, Paul Kent, Chris Williams and Chris Evans marshalled by Paulo 'Maldini' Firth ensured that keeper Dave Hicks had a quiet day.

A further three goals followed for Pensilva before the referee, taking pity on Padstow awarded them a penalty from which they scored.

Pensilva's scorers were T Rogers (2), S Firth (2), C Swinburne (2) and a D Hicks special from the spot.

Leighton Mitchell and veterans Mark Green and John Miller came on as subs joining in the celebrations.

At the final whistle the huge following of Pensilva support joined in the festivities. An excellent season had been crowned by a superb display of attacking football that thrilled the large crowd.

Many thanks go to the Club sponsors, Sue and Bob from the Victoria Inn, Alan Gimblett from Gimblett cars, Vicky and Terry from Pensilva Stores and S Hoskins, Builders. Thanks also to those supporters who have followed the club through the season.
