Pensilva Summer Skittles league - First win for those Golden Girls
With 15 games played and just three remaining, the lowly-placed Golden Girls from the Health Centre have finally gained their first 4-2 victory. Their opponents, the Middlers from Lower Middle Hill, just managed to secure two points as they led by just two pins after four legs of skittling. However, it was the Golden Girls who shone in the remaining four legs to win by a total of six pins, adding four points to the seven which they had gained earlier in the season.
The Rascals were unable to match the high-scoring in-form Bodmin Landers, who took all six points to consolidate their pole position and look set for championship honours with three games left to play.
Second placed Tigers also showed a better performance than their opponents when they took all six points available in their match against the Quarriers. Tigers were victorious by a margin of 52 pins, meaning they remain eight points away from the league leaders, needing one more maximum victory to confirm runners-up spot.
The Gremlins held a 15 pin advantage after their first half of skittling, but the Hillsecs four all improved during the second period and managed to rescue two much-needed points. However, it was a close finish with a difference of just three pins between the two team's totals.
The final game of the evening saw the two teams sitting in fourth and fifth place, namely the Galaxy, led by Ken Couchman, and the Lower Middle Hill Potholers, led by Gerry Edwards, pitted against one another. Potholers came out on top, winning both halves with a 29 pin advantage, gaining six points and taking fourth spot in the table.
