BODMIN TROPHIES DUCHY LEAGUE
DIVISION FOUR
Lewdown Rovers 1 Pensilva Reserves 1
PENSILVA started the better of the two teams and went in front in the 17th minute when a clever pass from Zak Peel allowed Jonny Firth to break away and then fed Tony Rogers to fire home from 12 yards.
Lewdown came back into the game and got their equaliser on 30 minutes when a poor clearance from Pensilva went to Chris Cork to hit a good strike from long distance that beat goalkeeper Martin Putt.
Rogers had a great chance to put Pensilva back in front before the break when a good pass from Firth sent Rogers clear, only for the 'keeper to make a fine save. Pensilva were by far the better side in the second half and thought they had taken the lead on 70 minutes, when Brendan Houghton lobbed the goalkeeper from 25 yards, only for the Lewdown assistant referee to flag against Peel, who apparently was offside and interfering with play.
The Pensilva management and players were astonished with this because Peel was nowhere near the ball or 'keeper, and they could not understand how he was interfering with play. Peel was very unlucky late on in the game when he fired in a great strike from 25 yards that hit the post.
Dave Hicks got Pensilva's man-of-the-match award for a solid game at the back.
The Pensilva players had bad news after the game when they returned to the changing rooms to find someone had stolen money from a few of the players' wallets.
Pensilva are away to in-form Altarnun Reserves tomorrow, with the players to meet at the Millennium Centre at 1.00pm.
Pensilva's sponsors for the game are Liskeard Cycles.
