Lady Mary Holborow, the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, presented The Lieutenant's Trophy to Pauline Major at the latest AGM of the Cornwall Target Shooting Association (CTSA) held at Ladock village hall.

Pauline, who is a member of Liskeard and District Rifle Club, was presented the Perpetual Trophy for services provided to forward the sport of shooting.

Secretary of the club, Les Sayers, was jointly awarded the Lieutenant's Trophy, but was unable to attend the presentation due to work commitments.

Pauline joined Liskeard and District Rifle Club in 1999 when her son, Lee, wanted to start shooting.

She was apprehensive at first but, after seeing the club's friendly and safe environment, her fears of what a rifle club would be like soon vanished, and she became Liskeard Ladies' Champion for the year 1999-2000 and retains the trophy to the present day.

Pauline is one of the key members who are working hard for the club's survival after it lost its purpose-built facility at Lux Park Leisure Centre in 2006.

Liskeard and District rifle club would like to thank members of Caradon District Council for their dedicated efforts in relocating the club, which has been running since 1923.

The rifle club and the local council have been working together to build a new range in the Liskeard area. Anyone who would like to make a donation to Liskeard and District Rifle Club towards the building of a new range, attend an opening day or is interested in becoming a member should contact club treasurer Pauline on 01503 272 664 or e-mail: [email protected]">[email protected]
