Cornerstone Church in Fore Street, Torpoint, is in need of a new roof and members are busily raising money towards its completion. Originally built in 1795 as a Methodist Chapel, English Heritage will have the final say on the type of slates that must be used on the building, possibly adding substantially to the costs. There was a fundraising pasty and pudding lunch held at the church last week, with a choice of home-made rice pudding or junket, after a locally made pasty. More than 40 people attended, raising £80 for the church roof. The pasties were so popular that volunteer Margaret Jones was taking one across the road to a shopkeeper, but sold it in the street before she got there!
