The Blues were made to fight their way into the last

16 of the Cornwall Senior Cup as their Divison One West hosts were determined to show them little respect at Lantoom Park.

Dobwalls are managed by Paul Andrews, who took most of last season's Tamarside under-18 side with him to Lantoom – and they have adjusted well to life at the higher level, as this performance showed.

For Liskeard, it was victory in a game in which they had everything to lose and nothing to gain as they were always expected to win a place in the last 16 of Cornwall's premier cup competition.

It was Blues boss Darren Edwards' first tast of victory in charge – and the smile on his face after the final whistle said it all.

Said Edwards: 'It was always going to be a hard game, especially with the conditions as the pitch was in doubt right up until the arrival of the referee an hour before kick-off. The referee then gave it the go-ahead and we prepared the best we could in the time we had available but, to add to the problems, it then rained heavily on several occasions which made the surface slippery.'

Edwards did admit that the game was a good one and that he had enjoyed it, despite being aware of the effort his opponents had put into the game.

'Dobwalls came at us and tried hard but, to be honest, I thought we bossed it in the first half and despite the conditions played quite a bit of good football and although they close down our space we still created a lot,' he said. 'They changed the way they were playing for the second half, which was more to do with stopping us. But they then created a few chances and could have scored a couple of goals. To be fair, though, I think we were deserved winners and we just saw the game out after the goal. We can now look forward to the draw for the next round as it is always nice to win the first game... especially against your local rivals.'
