Plans to introduce parking meters in a town’s main shopping street have met with opposition.

Saltash Town Council is strongly opposed to the Cornwall Council proposal for Fore Street.

Councillors fear the meters would reduce numbers parking – and, therefore, shopping – in the street.

The council is also critical of the proposal to introduce an after-4pm charge.

The town council is urging residents to submit their own comments to Cornwall Council even though the public consultation deadline ended on Friday, December 16. Four Saltash Cornwall Councillors are among the 46 from across the county who have signed a letter to the council’s chief executive and leader, asking them to intervene and bring the plans to an end.
