PEOPLE in the Liskeard area are being encouraged to join in with some online festive singing and help create a Cornish Christmas video.

Zoom workshops are being led by musician Rosie Fierek – these start tomorrow (Monday Nov 2) at 7.30pm and continue on November 9 and 16.

After the three sessions, a short film will be made in December, and will be uploaded for everyone to enjoy as part of the Nadelik Lyskerrys events.

A spokesperson for Liskeard Town Council said: “Kana Nadelik (Christmas singing) is an online community singing project which will result in a short film, shared via a social media campaign in the run up to Christmas.

“It keeps alive the Cornish singing from Liskeard’s Nadelik Lyskerrys festival and is a way for anyone who enjoys singing to join with others. We hope it’ll also help connect people, when many may feel isolated.”

Meanwhile, around a dozen businesses in the town so far have pledged support to Liskeard’s Lights Up this year. The Town Council is looking to provide very different Covid-safe Christmas activities to lift people’s spirits. There’ll be a large tree on the Parade and the lights will go on - but instead of a gathering in the town centre, youngsters are being encouraged to make a lantern and light it on their doorstep or in their window at 6.30pm on November 28.

A lantern competition is being run for children of all ages – send your photos by November 27 to [email protected] that the council can share the creations and judge the winners.

Any individual or business who can spare a donation however small to Lights Up should get in touch with Jenny or John at Liskerrett Community Centre

on 01579 340307 or email [email protected] .

Anyone who could help with putting up the lights on November 15 or 22 should also get in touch.
