THE East Cornwall Tennis Centre (ECTC) is looking to make its facilities more available during 2005. Last year was very successful for the centre, and there are now around 300 users of the facilities including about 160 members, 110 of whom are children. The centre, on the Callington Community College site, is currently extending its work with other organisations and wants to encourage members of other tennis clubs in the area to join the social evenings on Sundays from 6.30pm, so that people can play tennis all year round without having to travel long distances. One of last year's success stories was the parent and toddler sessions which took place before the older children's sessions on Saturday mornings. The sessions attracted a good number of people with children as young as four rallying with their parents. Top coach John Willis visits the centre again at the end of January to coach selected groups. The ECTC coaches are also planning to take a lot of players to tournaments in 2005. The centre is committed to organising trips away to matches and tournaments and to helping players with their tournament application forms. Among the schemes being looked at by the centre for the forthcoming year include the intention to open a shop and the urgent and ongoing need for a clubhouse. The centre is looking for anyone interested in helping to fundraise for the club house to contact them and anyone with any kind of transportable building which would serve as a temporary club house is asked to contact Tennis Development Officer Carlos Caldeira on 07966 370527.
