FOOTBALLER Ollie Chenoweth had the proudest day of his career so far on Saturday, when he played his first game for Plymouth Argyle – the team he has supported since he was a boy at Dobwalls primary school.

The son of farmers Geoff and Joan Chenoweth of Trevelmond, near Liskeard, goalkeeper Ollie (20) made his debut for Argyle in the end-of-season 2-2 draw at Morecambe.

It was a dream come true for Ollie who became a full-time apprentice in the Pilgrims' youth set up the day after he left Liskeard School and Community College two years ago.

After graduating from the youth ranks he was given a six-month professional contract by Argyle's former boss Paul Mariner and made the bench in the 2010/11 season.

He was then released at the end of that campaign and spent part of the time with Southern League Division One South and West side Bideford. 

However, Ollie was re-signed for Argyle last December and spent part of this time out on loan to Truro City in the Football Conference South. He was recalled by Argyle last month.

Praising Ollie for his performance, manager Carl Fletcher said: 'It was great for Ollie to get his debut. He is a local lad and he was delighted to be out there. We were pleased for him because he has got all the basics. His technique is all really good so he has got half a chance of being successful.'

Ollie now has to wait to see if he will be retained by the club.

'I am hoping to hear if I have a future with Argyle in the next couple of weeks,' he said.

Ollie is hoping for a double celebration in June, when his girlfriend Emily Tuxford is due to give birth to their first baby.
