SALTASH Old Cornwall Society celebrated its 60th birthday with a lunch at the China Fleet Club, Saltash, on Monday, November 20. Club president Ernie Reynolds welcomed Saltash mayor Joe Ellison, Mrs Marjorie Trevanion, a founder member of Saltash Old Cornwall Society and president of Truro Old Cornwall Society, Ron Opie, a Federation president, and Mrs Opie from Redruth. Wella Brown said grace in Cornish and English and 52 guests enjoyed a three-course meal. Mr Reynolds said there are 47 Old Cornwall Societies in Cornwall and he said many members were Cornish born and others were Cornish by adoption. The Cornish motto One and All reminds us of the Cornish spirit, he said. Mayor Joe Ellison said that although he was one of the newcomers, Saltash is a wonderful place to live. He said the town was under constant threat from the other side of the river but still wants to be part of Cornwall. Peter Gwynn was the MC, and Phyllis Brown arranged the table decorations.
