A NEW community group, aimed at getting people from the Torpoint and the Rame Peninsula out and about, was launched on Friday, September 24. Reach Out aims to improve the quality of life for people from Torpoint and the Rame Peninsula with trips around Cornwall and Devon. Activities will involve arts and culture, organised talks, and the chance to enjoy learning. Future events include a trip to St Ives and the Tate, walks on Dartmoor and at Mount Edgcumbe, a talk on health and well being with a swim, and a Christmas lunch. Chairperson Sue Howard said: 'At the moment we're a small group of people who want to lead healthier and more balanced lives. 'We'd like to reach out, and share that with others in the area. 'As a group, we have a range of skills and backgrounds including everything from tourism to banking, and we would like to build up a larger group of adults of all ages who want to come together to enjoy life, friendships, fun and mental stimulation.' Reach Out was set up with a grant from Caradon Local Opportunities Partnership (LOPs), a pilot project assisting jobless people living in the Liskeard and Rame Peninsula areas. Alex Lochhead, Caradon LOPs coordinator, said: 'We've worked with Reach Out from the start, and we're delighted to see the group branching out with an official launch to attract new members. 'It's a great starting point if you're new to the area, retired or just have some spare time on your hands, and want to meet up with other people.' Reach Out's free launch takes place, on Friday, September 24, at Torpoint's Enterprise Court from 12 noon to 2pm.
