A TORPOINT-born Royal Navy officer has been promoted to the rank of commodore and has taken on a new role based in Portsmouth. Cdre Graham Peach (pictured) has been appointed to the staff of Flag Officer Training and Recruiting with overall responsibility for training delivery at the Royal Navy's shore training establishments, including HMS Raleigh. The former pupil of Torpoint Community School and Saltash Grammar School joined the Royal Navy in 1979 and, on leaving Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, Devon, served on HMS Invincible and HMS Ariadne. Cdre Peach has also held appointments ashore at Dartmouth, Northwood, Whitehall and in Portsmouth. Promoted to captain in April 2000, he took command of the newly-formed maritime commissioning trials and assessment group. Cdre Peach also served on the staff of the Commander- in-Chief Fleet as the chief engineering staff officer for the surface flotilla. Married with four young children, Cdre Peach's links with Torpoint remain through his siblings, Carol and Helen, and through his wider family and friends in the town.
