ROADWORKS to rectify the crumbling and bumpy surface of Liskeard's 'new look' Parade are to take place at the end of October.

Following a meeting earlier this week between local representatives, and Cornwall county council officials it was agreed that work should begin on Sunday October 30 and last around two weeks.

As the infill between the granite sets on The Parade has begun to crumble, the sets will be removed and a layer of bitumen put down.

Later an imprinted surface will be laid which will be a similar colour to the current roadway. It was pointed out that Liskeard's Armistice Parade will be held on November 12, and the works need to be completed by then.

The town council has ensured that the granite sets will be stored in the meantime, and used elsewhere in Liskeard when the occasion demands.

However, once The Parade has received its second 'new look' Liskeard will not be free of roadworks. In January it is proposed that Brent will move into Church Street to carry out works for South West Water.

They are likely to be there for around four weeks. Current proposals are for a start date around January 8, but details will be confirmed later, following another meeting to discuss the matter on October 19.

The question of both sets of roadworks, and the proposed transportation strategy for Liskeard were discussed at the town council's September meeting. Key proposals for this are to reduce through traffic, improve pedestrian and cycle facilities in the town, and introduce a 20mph zone.

Studies were being carried out on safer routes to schools, and improvements for safety and routing of traffic.

The consultation period has now expired.
