PREMIER DIVISION
Wadebridge Tn 0
St Blazey 0
St Blazey manager Bobby Oaten was convinced that his Green & Blacks wasted the opportunity to take all three points from this goal-less draw at Bodieve Park.
'To be fair it was nip and tuck in the first half, but in the second period there was really only one team in it – and that was us.' said Oaten.
'Wadebridge only really had one clear-cut chance, and Tom Blackler made a great save, whereas we hit their woodwork more than once.'
Bridgers' boss Stuart Dudley had a slightly different view of the game, and replied: 'We had the better of the first-half exchanges, but were too anxious and did not show enough composure.
'St Blazey began the second period well, but could not break our resolute defence down and we fashioned chances; but, once again, our luck in front of goal was missing.'
Oaten gave a debut to his new signing from Plymouth Parkway... and was not disappointed with full-back Lewis Russell's first outing.
'I was pleased with his debut, as he came through the game very well considering his lack of match fitness,' praised Oaten.
The first half was practically devoid of chances, although Danny Zalick did see one effort scrambled on to the post by Bridgers' goalkeeper Jimmy Vernon. Wadebridge's only chance fell to Paul Grills, but he put his volley over Tom Blackler's crossbar from ten yards.
St Blazey emerged the stronger of the two sides after the break and had their hosts on the back foot in the early stages as Vernon made a great double save from Emile Ivanov.
Adam Bance then saw his 20-yarder come back off the upright before Zalick fired against Vernon's crossbar.
Wadebridge's best effort game in stoppage them when their skipper, Martin Cook, saw his drive well saved by Blackler and, from the resultant corner, Chris Wolstencroft put his header straight at the Blazey 'keeper from six yards.
