Nursery appeal is turned down
Despite local parents' support a government inspector has dismissed an appeal, lodged on behalf of Karen Sweet, for the establishment of Pixielands Day Nursery at 22 Essa Road, Saltash.
The proposal to convert the house had been turned down by Caradon council on traffic grounds and, after a site visit in May, the inspector supported the reasons for refusal put forward by the planning office.
The nursery school had been planned to cater for 35 children and employ eight or nine carers on a full time basis. Planning objections related to inadequate off-highway car parking facilities. Additionally the inspector looked closely at on street parking on Essa Road. He stressed the risks in dropping off and picking up children due to parked vehicles, the inevitable narrowing of Essa Road and problems associated with the junction with King Edward Road.
In conclusion he felt the premises were not suitable as a nursery due to traffic that it would generate.
