Unhappy about his father's relationship with Elizabeth Berry, 30-year-old Richard Bradbury decided not to invite her to his wedding.
Michael Bradbury said he would not attend either and that led to bad feeling, prosecutor Ron Ede told Truro Crown Court.
After spending the day drinking with her husband, who she married in September, 37-year-old Tanya Bradbury abused Miss Berry and lunged at her, knocking her to the floor.
Michael Bradbury went to assist and was punched in the face by his son.
The defendants were clearly drunk when arrested, said Mr Ede.
Tanya Bradbury, pleaded guilty to assaulting Miss Berry, causing her actual bodily harm and Richard Bradbury admitted a similar offence on his father.
Richard Bradbury further admitted another assault with six other assaults taken into consideration.
Richard Bradbury, who had spent 100 days in prison on remand, was placed on supervision for two years and ordered to participate in the domestic violence programme.
His wife, of The Old Foundry, Roseland, Liskeard, was given a 12-month supervision order and both must attend an alcohol specified activity programme.
