A POPULAR New Year’s Day dip has been cancelled due to the spread of the new Omicron variant.

The Lions club of Torpoint and Rame Peninsula stage their New Years Day Dip at Cawsand Bay each January 1st - people dress up, throw themselves into the sea, and raise money for their own chosen charities as well as Lions causes.

Club spokesperson Steve Murray said: "Owing to the new variant of Covid currently spreading its tendrils throughout the country we have made the decision to cancel the event."
