Sgt Gilbert attended last week's Torpoint Town Council meeting and introduced the town's new Police Community Support Officer. John Riggall started in Torpoint on Monday and is no stranger to many councillors, having been the community police officer in the town before his retirement. PCSO Riggall will have responsibility for the Rame area, once a second PCSO has been appointed. Sgt Gilbert informed the council that there had been 32 reported crimes in the town in the last month. These included three reports of criminal damage, seven assaults, seven thefts, two reports of criminal damage to motor vehicles, two thefts from motor vehicles, one case of driving while disqualified, two cases of possession of drugs, one robbery, and eight drunk and disorderly/public order offences. He said that thefts from motor vehicles remain a focal point for the local police. The vulnerable vehicle scheme will run again, where officers will be notifying vehicle owners of property left on show, especially CD players and satellite navigation systems. He went on to stress that by minimising the opportunity for theft in this way, owners removing items from their vehicles will play an important part in combating this type of crime.
