LOCAL people are mounting a campaign against a major dredge dumping programme off the coast of South East Cornwall.

A decision to allow 76,000 tonnes of marine sediment from Millbay in Plymouth to be dumped in Whitsand Bay has caused uproar.

Residents have long been unhappy with dumping in the bay with millions of tonnes of waste material from the River Tamar having been disposed of in waters there for more than 100 years in order to keep the river channel navigable for vessels.

But the latest round of dredge dumping has sparked calls for an end to waste being disposed of near the Rame Peninsula.
