A NEW pop-up cafe providing food and helping to save waste is to launch in Saltash.
Cafe Abundance, a non-profit organisation, intercepts food that would otherwise be destined for landfill. Volunteer chefs then turn the food into healthy meals.
The food comes from a variety of sources, including producers, wholesalers, supermarkets and local independent shops, said a spokesperson for the project.
‘By stopping this food from being binned we are reducing the disastrous impacts of putting food into landfill sites or incinerators as well as raising public awareness of the negative implications of wasting food,’ the spokesperson said.
’Food is served to anyone and everyone in our pop-up cafes - as all of our meals are available on a ‘Pay As You Feel’ basis, no-one need be excluded from experiencing the multiple benefits of eating delicious, healthy meals in a community cafe environment.’
Cafe Abundance will be at St Stephen’s Church, Saltash, on Saturday October 7 from 12 noon - 1.30pm.
